There is one key number that every Washington fan needs to know for the wild card showdown against the Buccaneers.
20.
The cast of characters around Tom Brady presents a formidable front. Even without the services of Mike Evans, Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin present a menacing challenge for any defense. Add to that tandem Tom’s bestie Gronk and a surprisingly shifty Ronald Jones and you’ve got an offense that looks poised for a deep playoff run.
But then again, this is the Bucs, right?
This is the team that lost 26 games in a row to kickoff their newly minted franchise.
The team that Bo Jackson refused to play for.
The team that afforded the WFT their only postseason win since Tom Cruise jumped for joy on Oprah’s couch and Destiny’s Child wore their last matching outfit.
The team that inspired Kirk Cousins to scream “You Like That?!” after erasing a 24-0 deficit to take home the win.
Now is it fair to bring up the past history of this Buccaneers organization when this current roster had nothing to do with their putrid past?
Absolutely not.
But is it fun?
Unequivocally YES.
And if Ron Rivera and the Football Team want to keep having fun this Saturday night, then they need to take notice of our number of the week.
20.
Every week of this season, the number 20 has held true.
Any time that the Washington Football Team has held their opponent under 20 points, the Team has walked away with the win.
Look it up.
7 wins and 0 losses when holding their opponent under 20 points.
9 losses and 0 wins when their opponent scores 20 or more.
There is power in the 20.
Don’t believe me?
Since the inception of the Washington football organization, Washington has made the playoffs 42 times. Of those 42 games, they have 23 wins. Of those 23, care to take a quess at how many times the Football Team has held their playoff opponent to less than 20 points?
Exactly. Twenty. Times.
So it seems quite simple.
Hold Tampa under 20. Come home with the win.
Tampa Bay, as a team, boasts a ton of elite talent on offense, ranks among the league’s best on defense and presents a herculean challenge to the WFT.
And yet, if Chase Young, Montez Sweat and the rest of their “Why not us?” defensive mates can find a way to limit the Bucs to less than 20 on wild card weekend, I’m not saying they are going to win, but in the immortal words of Lloyd Christmas... “[I’m] saying there’s a chance!”
